Calculus Expectations
 
COURSE EXPECTATIONS:  Mrs. Cheryl Nowak
I)   Required materials
     A. Textbook - must be brought to class each day
     B. A notebook dedicated only to Calculus
     C. Graphing calculator (TI 83 or TI 84)
     D. Non-graphing calculator
     E.  Pencils
     F.  Folder


II)  Classroom policy & procedures
     A. You are expected to be ready and willing to participate in
         each day's class by being attentive and contributing to
         discussions.
     B. Ask questions if you don't understand, and arrange for help
         outside class time when necessary.
     C. Working with other students in the class by forming study
         groups can be very helpful.

III) Homework policy
     A. Each assignment should be clearly labeled with the date, assignment          
         number, assigned page and problem numbers.
     B. Work is expected to be done in a manner befitting a college
         level AP class.
     C. Remember that homework is expected to be a learning
         experience. If you do not spend the necessary time on it you
         are setting yourself up for failure.
     D. Homework is collected on the due date.  You will be
         given 2 late passes each quarter, and then it will be due the
         following day.  No other late homework will be accepted except
         in extenuating circumstances.

IV)  Evaluation/grades
     A. Homework counts for 25% of your grade.
     B. Tests and quizzes count for 65% of your grade.
     C. AP Practice Tests count for 10% of your grade.
     D. Adjustments:
                  1) You may drop one test or quiz grade EITHER 1st or 2nd
                      quarter, provided you scored at least 50% on it.
                  2) You may drop one test or quiz grade 3rd quarter, with the
                      same stipulation as above.      
     E. AP exam is REQUIRED .  I expect that all of you will put forth your BEST
         effort the entire school year with a goal of achieving a score of 5 on the AP
         test in May.

V)  Attendance/absence
     A. If absence is due to retreat, field trip, vacation or other
         pre-arranged absence, you must let me know before hand so we
         can discuss what you will miss.
     B. Get someone's notes, if possible, before you return to class.
     C. If you miss a test or quiz, you will be expected to make it up
         the day you return to school.
